Districts and states across the United States have supported restrictions on student usage, but New York City’s leaders are backing away from the idea because of logistical concerns.
For all the potential mental health benefits of banning cell phones, we should probably focus on stopping school shootings first. Until we’ve done that, I’m more likely to believe that cell phone bans are more about politicians not wanting to hear voicemails from dead kids telling their parents they love them one last time, than anything being done for the wellbeing of students.
