Showing my age here but man I hate voice notes. I’m not always somewhere I can listen to it, and the UI for resuming a note halfway is terrible (if it’s even implemented) so if I get interrupted I have to listen to it again. I can read much faster than I can listen so you’re wasting my time too
Another old here to agree with you. If they’re going through that process, why not just use voice to text? We can get text transcripts of voicemail - why can’t we also have text transcripts of voice notes?
Privacy issues, for the most part. Most messaging apps are encrypted such that the server is unable to view the contents of the messages, only the participants in the conversation can decode it. For the transcript to happen it would either break encryption (a huge can of worms) or it’d have to happen on your device, which would probably be beyond the scope of the app.
I had no idea what a voice note was until I read this article, but I’m rare in that I quit most of the big social media years ago. I think if I wanted to talk to people, I’d meet them in person or schedule a call.
I’m a xennial (gen x if you take the '82 cut-off), and I definitely hate talking on the phone unless it’s something urgent. I do schedule Skype sessions with my family back home (I am from the US but have lived in Japan almost a decade now; amusingly, Japan almost always requires calls, faxes, and/or going in person to do a lot of things, particularly as a foreigner). It probably doesn’t help that I did tech support for years and was on call basically all the time for a number of years.
