2·19 days agoBecause international travel was shut down during covid, so people couldn’t leave, but their visas expired. They’d planned and budgeted for a vacation, so they were allowed to apply for work visas to support themselves until they were able to return home.

4·1 month agoThat said, I’m surprised more teachers don’t run. I would go to bat for my best teachers. The really great ones also had at least a 19:1 ratio of kids who liked them.
They’re good at speaking, even in front of a noisy crowd, they need a thick skin and to be able to shut down a kid who is out of line, and they’re empathetic and intellectually curious. Most of the good teachers I know are also deeply idealistic, which could go either way, but they’d at least have a political vision.
A bad teacher is awful, but a good one seems like they’d make a good politician.
My parents just had a book with this title and didn’t realize I could read it yet. It was funnier than it sounds?
