The problem is that whatever fresh horror comes about, the media just normalizes it, which in turn makes their audiences internalize it as “the new normal”. I have a brother who gets all his news from the NY Times. He doesn’t think Elon “really” meant to do a Nazi salute, and he thinks “well there must be some limit to immigration”. I’m trying to tell him that he is falling for fascist propaganda. By even engaging with their talking points he is accepting their premise. Suddenly mass deportations are a normal policy worth consideration.
