Brett Kavanaugh was on the legal team that investigated the Clinton Blowjob and the Bush Jr team that challenged the Florida recount. He served as Assistant to the President and White House staff secretary before being promoted to the Federal Bench in 2003. While on the court, he was the lone dissent to the constitutionality of the PPACA, he wrote in favor of denying a refugee rape victim access to abortion services claiming it was “a new right for unlawful immigrant minors in U.S. government detention to obtain immediate abortion on demand”, and argued the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was unconstitutional.
This is the guy Trump appointed to the SCOTUS. Trump’s administration is riddled with similar Reagan/Bush I & II and far-right gubernatorial goons.
Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m well versed in their evil history. The difference is that they’re more emboldened now. There isn’t a single level head in this administration. And the evil goes all the way down from trump to ICE to your standard beat cops. None of them are here to do good.
It all just feels like recency bias to me. The same goons pushing the same nightmarish policies, but we look back on Gitmo and putting Senators on the No-Fly List to intimidate them and John Woo explaining the legality of a state agent crushing a child’s testicles during a Congressional Committee, and we just say “That’s old news so its not as bad.”
There isn’t a single level head in this administration.
Who was level headed in the wake of 9/11? Rumsfeld? Ashcroft? Greenspan? They systematically dismantled the liberal establishment twenty years ago. It just took them a bit longer, because there was so much to be done. The big difference between Then and Now is that Trump’s governing without guardrails he needs to remove first.
