In actual practice, the interference between the surrounding plastic and clips is very sensitive and nearly impossible to dial. This is like tactile connectors where things that may appear simple on the surface and at first glace are anything but in practice. This is texture critical types of design well beyond just precision tolerance. The formula of plastic is important in many cases. Even with something that appears to work at first, in the long term, any reliability issues with a breadboard are an absolute nightmare for actually using a breadboard. I have tried this in practice, and learned this lesson the hard way.
