What the fuck is the difference between the PS5 and the Xbox Whatever It’s Called? There’s like six games Sony funded and a dozen games Microsoft funded, out of hundreds upon hundreds of games that run more-or-less identically between their more-or-less identical AMD laptops. And three of Sony’s six games run on Windows anyway.

Sony would desperately like for the PS2 era to continue forever, with every game being for one particular platform, and occasionally ported to other machines a year later. Microsoft entered the console market specifically to make it computer-y. They were talking about this before DirectX had a real name. They were clearly on this specific vector by the 360 era, with CryTek running side-by-side on wildly different architectures. Sony won that generation… that battle. But with Oblivion and HL2 running like shit, they were already losing the war. By the PS3’s end, it was just another compiler target.
